Baltic Mills Site
Town of Sprague, Sprague, CT
The Town of Sprague is working to redevelop this former mill site. One component of this planning process is to assist potential developers in understanding environmental issues. This has included completion of a Phase I and II Environmental Assessment (ESA).
|
The site was formerly occupied by a massive textile mill which burned and was destroyed several years ago. The village of Baltic was built to support the workers at this former mill.
The Phase I ESA identified several areas of concern including:
 Former Underground Storage Tank
 Former Transformers
 Fill
Past Chemical Handling and Waste Management
 Possible Old Disposal Areas
Building Materials Containing Asbestos and Lead
These findings precipitated the Town applying to USEPA and obtaining funding for a Phase II Site Investigation, which has been completed by USEPA.
