Mukluk Skeet Range Site
Town of Sprague, Sprague, Connecticut
The Town of Sprague has purchased this natural open space riverfront property (over 250-acres) for recreational use. The Town is undertaking the clean-up of 15 acres of land and an important open marsh wetlands impacted by lead shot from a skeet range.
![]() The Mukluk Skeet range operated on site for approximately 50 years. The Town purchased this property with CTDEP funding assistance to preserve this important natural open space area for public recreational use. The property has over 4000 feet of frontage on the Shetucket River and is an important cold-water fishery.

Mukluk Skeet Range, in conjuntion with the University of CT, conducting a Phytoremediation demonstration project to evaluate the effectiveness of certain plants to extract lead from contaminated soil.
The property is also located within the nationally designated Quinebaug Shetucket Rivers Valley National Heritage Corridor. Site characterization work and a Remedial Action Plan were completed. The Remedial Action Plan includes:
